Study the Bible as Literature

 A friend on Facebook posted that she and her husband were going to read through the book of Proverbs this month.  She went public and I have joined them in the study.

I started reading and found it refreshing.  The book of Proverbs is poetry - beautiful poetry.   When I was in college, my literature professor suggested that we use parts of the Bible to study.  He said that the Bible IS literature and, if read that way, no one, no matter what their spiritual or religious affiliations or lack thereof should object.

Proverbs was one of those books he chose.  Pithy, concise council for living is what Proverbs is all about.  If you would like to check it out for yourself, I'll make it easy for you.  Just go to:

You will be able to choose parallel versions, concordance, and a bible dictionary if you want.  I have found this to be a convenient tool to use in Bible studies.

 1-6 These are the wise sayings of Solomon,
   David's son, Israel's king—
Written down so we'll know how to live well and right,
   to understand what life means and where it's going;
A manual for living,
   for learning what's right and just and fair;
To teach the inexperienced the ropes
   and give our young people a grasp on reality.
There's something here also for seasoned men and women,
   still a thing or two for the experienced to learn—
Fresh wisdom to probe and penetrate,
   the rhymes and reasons of wise men and women.

I hope you have enjoyed and found this post useful.  Leave a comment or suggestion if you will.  I really would like to hear from you.  Until the next time, God bless.
